In 2003 I spent 5 weeks in Rio De Janeiro with Assocacao Beneficente Amar.
Association Amar is placed in Grajau, a district in the city of Rio De Janeiro.
It developes 12 social/educational and professional training projects with the objective of recovery and formation of citizenship. Amar helps “meninos de rua” and people who live into “favelas” or “morro/morrinho”.
I don’t want to talk about my experience that it was one of the best experience I’ve ever done, but I want to publish and dedicate the video of the Morrinho Project to my colleague Daniela because she has done the same experience this summer and when she is came back she bring back all my memories.
“The Morrinho Project” is a large brick model of a favela and in this post, you can find more info and links.
On Monday 22nd October, visit “Indie Riviera - New adventures in music” (italian blog) and you can download an album with unreleased tracks (most of all) of italian indie bands: ZU, Le Man Avec Les Lunettes, Humpty Dumpty, Late Guest (At The Party), Tafuzzy Records …
My friend Fran, the author, thanks all indie bands who have allowed him to share mp3 in the album.
The front cover of the album is created by Manuel.
Stay tuned, I will give you more instructions to download it on Monday.
This is a video I have recorded into English Pavillion to Venice Biennale 2007.
When I came into this room, I saw all of these pictures so perfecly aligned … I went in the middle of the room and I twisted around. I felt like a little child!
Soundtrack: These New Puritans singing “I want to be Tracey Emin” (sorry, it sounds bad)
Another artist who has capture my attention at Venice Biennale 2007 was the French Sophie Calle.
Prenez soin de vous (Take care of yourself) is the title of her exhibition at French Pavillion.
She explains her work with this words:
“ I received an email telling me it was over. I didn’t know how
to answer. It was as if it wasn’t meant for me.
It ended with the words: Take care of yourself.
I took this recommendation literally.
I asked a hundred and two women, chosen for their profession,
to interpret the letter in their professional capacity.
To analyze it, provide a commentary on it, act it, dance it, sing it.
Dissect it. Squeeze it dry. Understand for me. Answer for me.
It was a way to take the time to break up. At my own pace.
A way to take care of myself.”
Her work consists in showing all reactions of 102 women of various professions: photos, email, videos, music compositions, ect.
It was funny the video-interpretation by comic actress Luciana Littizzetto.
This is the firt work of Sophie that I see, but I can say that I love her style, her conceptual art.
I like to see different reactions of people. Here, you can find a set of photos taken by a Flicker.
Can’t you go to Venice Biennale to see Sophie Calle? Look her work at this video.
I have been at Venice Biennale to see International artists works.
Only two artists have captured my attention and one of these was Emin’s works.
I have created a video into English Pavillon, but for the moment I post a piece of Press Release of British Council.
High resolution exhibition installation images and images of Tracey Emin works are available here .
” Born in London in 1963 to an English mother and Turkish-Cypriot father, Emin’s new exhibition at the British Pavilion is entitled Borrowed Light and includes work specially made for the Venice Biennale.
Commenting on the exhibition, Emin said: The chance to exhibit at the Venice Biennale is a great honour and has helped me to redefine what my work really means to me. Borrowed Light is my most feminin body of work so far, very sensual but at the same time it is graphically sharp. It is both pretty and hardcore. For me, as an artist, what’s important is to cover everything from the emotional to the literal, and sometimes that means I give myself a very hard time”
Using a variety of media including embroidery, drawing, painting and neon, Emin’s uniquely intimate form of emotional realism shines through in Borrowed Light. From smudgy monoprints to lightly painted oils and watercolours, Emin interprets moments in her life with an astonishing urgency, much of it describing how it feels to be a body taken over by feeling, exhilaranting, frightening, embarassing, confusing, disabling and empowering. “ Venice Art Biennale 2007 is opened until November 21th.
